Established in 2013, PALS Animal Alliance has supported our local Carroll County Animal Shelter for over a decade.

Our mission is to improve the lives of animals at the Carroll County Georgia Animal Shelter through strategic support and community education—funding shelter needs, supporting foster and transport programs, and educating our community about adoption, responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neuter.

Meet Onyx

Meet Onyx! She is a 1.5 year old Pit/Lab mix with a sleek black coat, soulful eyes and a truly beautiful heart. This sweet girl has a gentle, loving nature that shines the moment you meet her. Onyx has a wonderful, moderate energy level that gives her the perfect balance of playful and relaxed. She is a smart girl who already knows “sit” very well and is always eager to show off her good manners. With her desire to please and willingness to learn, she’s ready to master even more tricks and skills with her future family. She enjoys toys and splashing in the kiddie pool while also savoring time and affection with those around her. Onyx is the kind of dog who won’t only share your home; she’ll share your heart. Meet Balto, a 6 year old male Akita mix and a stunning boy who turns heads wherever he goes. His gorgeous, fluffy coat practically glows in the sunshine, and it’s so comforting to pet his super-soft fur. he rides well in the car, walks nicely on a leash and almost prances when his is out and about - yes, Balto definitely knows he’s handsome! He enjoys leisurely walks, exploring all the interesting sights and scents in the park, and taking life at a comfortable pace. Most of all, he loves spending time with his people and is happiest simply being by your side. Whether you’re heading out for a neighborhood stroll, running errands, or settling in for a cozy movie night on the couch, Balto will be right there with you. While Balto adores people, a meet-and-greet would be required if there are other dogs in the home. Balto has waited patiently for someone to see beyond his kennel and discover the wonderful companion he truly is. Come and meet this special boy soon and see for yourself!

Meet Axel

Axel is a 9 month old male Pit mix with a stunning brindle coat that seems to glow in the sunshine - just like his bright, happy personality! This handsome boy also has an adorable dark purple tongue, giving him an extra touch of charm and hinting at the unique mix that makes him so special. Full of youthful energy, Axel loves spending time in the park where he can run, play, and explore to his heart's content. One of his favorite activities is joyfully racing along the fence with neighboring dogs, happily inviting them to join in the fun. He's an active pup who would love a family that enjoys walks, playtime, and making memories together. Axel is also a smart young dog who already knows “sit” and is eager to keep learning. With his willingness to please and fun-loving nature, he will thrive with a family that will continue helping him grow into the amazing companion he was born to be. Come meet this sweet pup soon!

  • Please visit the Carroll County Animal Shelter during their adoption hours. There you will be able to see and meet all the adoptable animals at the shelter. If you would like to spend more time getting to know an animal, there are designated bonding areas where you can meet and play with the available dogs and cats. There are outdoor bonding areas to play with the dogs. If you have dogs at home, we recommend you bring them on your visit to let them meet and make sure they would be great companions. There are indoor bonding areas for cats and puppies. For more one-on-one time with cats, you can also visit Fur Babies Cat Cafe, located at 301 South St in Carrollton. They are partnered with the Carroll County Animal Shelter. They offer only fully vetted, adoptable cats for you to visit. Their indoor space encourages connection and bonding while getting to know the cats eligible for adoption.

  • Adoption fees are $50 for dogs and $50 for cats.

    Since cats do so much better with a friend, the shelter offers adopt one for $50, the second adoption is free.

    The adoption fees covers, micro chip, spay/neuter, deworming, flea treatment and being fully vetted to age (all shots that can be given based on how old they are)

  • We will be posting information and photos  on our Facebook page as well as on this website to keep people updated on all we are accomplishing! You can also tour the shelter to see all of this first hand.

  • Call Carroll County Animal Shelter if during hours at (770) 214-3590 and if after hours call Carroll County Animal Control at (770)-834-8150.

    They will walk you through the process of helping the owner’s find their dog and taking them to the proper shelter.

    If you are able to keep the dog at your home, while the owner is found, that is an option to keep them out of the shelter, otherwise animal control will come pick it up.

    Rescues and foster dog parents cannot take a dog in until it has properly gone through the channels of the shelter.

Ways you can help

Financial Donations

Thanks to your support and donations we are able to build outdoor kennels with permanent shade, create additional bonding and exercise areas, support pet food pantries located around the county, and help provide surgical equipment and spaces for more spays and neuters, along with a new surgery and recovery area! None of the work we do is possible without your gracious financial donations!

Volunteering at the shelter

The Carroll County Animal Shelter always needs volunteers! And A lot of our hands on projects need extra them as well. Carrollton has lots of events in the city that we like to bring the adoptable dogs too, and volunteers are needed for these.

You can also foster dogs and cats to help them find forever homes, or you can take a dog out for a day and take them around town to meet people and get out of their kennel, take a nice walk, and more!

Adoption Success Stories/Volunteer Reviews

  • A lot of my volunteer time is spent walking dogs, which helps them physically, mentally and socially. All of the dogs benefit from this and then show much better for adopters. It also allows me to know key information and lovable traits about each dog, so that I can help adopters find a good match that works for everyone involved - humans and dogs. In addition, I help coordinate dog adoption events by working with shelter staff and other volunteers.

    I also work on a lot of “advertising” for the wonderful pups we have by making cage tags and binder sheets for each dog, so adopters can browse through key info when at the shelter. Plus I write dog bios that another volunteer posts onto PetFinder and AdoptaPet, and I also help with Facebook posts and write the Pet of the Week features for the Times-Georgian. Basically, I try anything that helps get the word out about the “hidden gems” at the shelter waiting for their forever family.

    Overall, we have an incredible team of highly dedicated volunteers. Each of us brings our own unique skills and ideas on how to help, and we each feel truly rewarded by the joy we see on every dog and cat’s face. And even more rewarding is to see one of our “hidden gems” get adopted and go to a loving home.

  • I adopted Maxx years ago (he was a Rockstar) from the shelter.  He worked at Cheers the liquor store every day.  He was recognized at fast food drive throughs, embraced with incredible LOVE by the  Bowdon Vet…. As he struggled and did all we could to keep him comfortable til the end.  My heart was beyond broken, this animal was amazing.  He was a picture on Facebook, just as Blaise was.  I knew the moment I looked into those brown eyes…. I was coming to get you as soon as I could and bring you home.  Maxx was the best family member I’ve ever known.  I miss him every day still.  Then there’s Blaise… I’m pretty sure Maxx knew I needed him. Blaise is so much like Maxx.  I don’t know how I got so blessed with two amazing children from the Carroll County Animal Shelter.  I say  Children, cause that’s how they should and are treated with me.  Jill, you’re an Angel without wings. Posting the picture of Blaise … looking sad, changed both of our lives.  It’s big love between us.  Please consider adopting from Carroll County Animal Shelter.  I’ve been beyond Blessed Twice.  Blaise is sincerely living his best life.  Be that Heart.

  • I currently foster dogs at from the CCAS along with volunteering at shelter.  I started fostering last year during a deep freeze - taking (2) 6 month old dogs home.  Within 2 days upon returning to shelter - both were adopted ( to the same home ).  I was able to inform the potential adopter all about those wonderful pups which really helped them with the adoption decision.

    I have had 12 fosters since last January - only my last dog which just returned Tuesday 1/27 remains at the shelter and awaiting adoption.

    It doesn’t take an enormous amount of time as you may think.  I have 5 animals of my own -and a family - so once you get into a routine - it works wonderfully.  Recently,  I read an article that stated shelters that utilize a foster program have 30% more adoptions than those that don’t have a foster program.  Amazing percentage!

    Fostering is rewarding for you as well as beneficial to the dog/ cat - knowing you can increase their chance of adoption by providing useful information to potential adopters!

    It really does make a difference ! I’ve seen the results first hand !
